Prisoner of Tehran by Marina Nemat has been
selected as one of CBC’s Canada Reads books for 2012. Nemat will read and
answer questions during a special event with Doug Dirks, host of the CBC
Homestretch.
CBC Calgary and The Calgary Public Library are proud to welcome Marina Nemat, author of "The Prisoner of
Tehran" to our city for a special meet and greet and author's reading.
The Prisoner of Tehran is one of this year's
Canada Reads 2012 selections and will be defended by Arlene Dickinson.
Marina Nemat grew up a Russian Orthodox
Christian in mainly Muslim Iran. She was a high school student in Tehran
when the Islamic Revolution took power, in 1979. Three years later, at the
age of 16, she was arrested for speaking out against the regime and thrown
into the country's most notorious political prison, where she was tortured
and narrowly escaped execution. Prisoner of Tehran is Nemat's candid
account of her ordeal.
